Parallels Desktop reviews often gloss over another excellent feature found on this virtualization software: In addition to running parallel desktops on your Mac, the software also has excellent file-sharing and synchronization features. These work just like System Restore points in Windows, can be created manually or automatically, and used to restore the virtual machine on your Mac to a previous state at any time. Snapshots are saved virtual machine states previously run through Parallels. If you find this cumbersome and don’t want to clutter your Mac Dock, you can always set the icons to show up only in Coherence mode. You can actually access and run your Windows apps directly from the dock as you would in the regular environment of either OS. In our review of Parallels, we found that this isn’t limited to just minimizing or bringing up inactive windows. While there is no Parallels for iPad (the hardware can run Parallels Access, but not the desktop virtualization tool), you can use Sidecar to make your iPad a portable monitor for your virtual Windows desktop.Īll your open Windows applications appear in your Mac Dock alongside your native apps. It allows Mac users who have an iPad to use the tablet as a secondary screen and is an excellent productivity-boosting tool. So, what else is Parallels offering? Well, you may remember that the latest version of macOS Catalina added a handy feature called Sidecar. You can also set it up to automatically boot your virtual device in this mode. You can enable this mode either from the Parallels menu or the added blue button in the window’s title bar. Your virtual taskbar completely disappears, and Windows apps can mingle freely with their Mac counterparts. The final and most impressive view in our Parallels Desktop review is called Coherence. It minimizes the virtual OS window but still keeps it active, so you can check what’s going on while working on other things. PiP mode is useful for monitoring ongoing Windows processes. Window mode shows the guest-OS apps in a resizable window, and macOS apps can be run alongside those from your virtual operating system. Once Parallels for Mac reviews and sets up your Windows virtual desktop, you have four ways of interacting with it: It’s even possible to connect Bluetooth devices, such as the Xbox Elite controller, which work on both operating systems. You can also pull your Windows installation from a Boot Camp partition if you made one earlier.Īny portable devices, such as external hard drives, USB-powered sound cards, and keyboards, can be connected through USB, USB-C, Thunderbolt, or FireWire ports, and Parallels software will display them on both your Mac and Windows desktops. This allows you to export the data directly to your Parallels app or put it on an external drive. Parallels makes creating a Windows environment on a Mac easy: After downloading and installing the app, you can either use an OS image, be directed to a Windows installer (if you have a license), or simply buy a copy of Windows directly from Microsoft.Īlternatively, you can let Parallels for Mac review the contents of your Windows installation by installing a system export utility on your Windows PC. There is also a veritable mountain of additional goodies, from the handy Toolbox to file-sharing and synchronization features. For starters, you can run operating systems other than Windows on it. It’s also much more than that, at least according to Parallels reviews. Parallels 17 is the latest version of virtualization software that allows Mac users to access their favorite Windows apps through a virtual machine with a Windows operating system.

So, be sure to understand the North Atlantic weather, and also the capabilities of your airplane. I know that it’s impossible to do this for hours with a Cirrus. When the clouds are lying on the surface of this ice shield, it results in negative degrees Celsius. When crossing Greenland, you must be absolutely sure that you can fly either higher than the clouds or below them. The ice at several places is so heavy that it presses the ground underneath it to sea level. Most people know about Greenland’s ice coverage, but it’s not common knowledge that the ice is two-miles thick. (It’s certainly not the same as it is back home!)Ĭrossing Greenland is the most difficult part of a North-Atlantic flight crossing. This proved to be an effective and accurate training exercise that helped me understand the weather situation in the North Atlantic. In the evening, I’d check the weather again to see if the decision I had made that morning was correct. Every morning, I studied the weather charts of the North Atlantic, writing down if the weather would allow me to fly the leg from A to B on that day or not. You must prepare for everything as highlighted by Roger here…īefore my first Atlantic crossing three years ago, I studied the weather for two months prior to the trip. When you plan a flight such as an Atlantic crossing, it’s very, very important to know all that you can in advance. Roger spoke to AvBuyer about his experience. In 2016, Roger Harr made his second North-Atlantic flight crossing in his Cirrus SR22. Other tasks include cleaning and polishing fixtures, walls, furniture and equipment, cleaning tableware, cleaning food service areas, mopping and vacuuming floors, cleaning up spills, removing empty bottles and trash, and scraping and stacking dirty dishes. Primary functions of the busser are to clean and reset tables, carry dishes and other tableware to the kitchen, serve items such as water, coffee and bread, replenish supplies of linens, tableware and trays, and assist servers with clearing plates and other areas of table service. It has been claimed that the term originated in America as 'omnibus boy', a boy employed to do everything ('omni-') in a restaurant including setting and clearing tables, filling glasses, taking used dishes to the kitchen, etc. The duties of bussers fall under the heading of busing or bussing, an Americanism of unknown origin. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the occupation typically did not require related work experience or a high school diploma, that on-the-job training was short term, and that the median income in 2012 for the position was $18,500. Bussers are typically placed beneath the waiting staff in organization charts, and are sometimes an apprentice or trainee to waiting staff positions. The term for a busser in the classic brigade de cuisine system is commis de débarrasseur, or simply débarrasseur. Speakers of British English may be unfamiliar with the terms, which are translated in British English as commis waiter, commis boy, or waiter's assistant. In North America, a busser, more commonly known as a busboy or busgirl, is a person who works in the restaurant and catering industry clearing tables, taking dirty dishes to the dishwasher, setting tables, refilling and otherwise assisting the waiting staff. For the French composer, see Henri Büsser. Lunark is a stylish, expertly crafted, love-letter to gaming’s early narrative evolution. To help smooth out difficulty spikes common for this kind of game, Lunark employs a novel upgrade system which sees you complete optional puzzles to upgrade the power of your gun at kiosks and return shells to an indigenous alien that extends your health bar with the power of hugs, but make no mistake it’s still a challenging platformer. This is especially useful during some of the game’s more hectic chase sequences – although chances are you will still suffer the occasional cheap death. On the plus side though, Checkpoints are fairly common, and the game remembers where you’ve moved platforms or solved puzzles so your next run is often a little easier. But the cleverest fights in my mind are ones that involve punting missiles back at your enemies or shooting them out of the sky so they fall on unsuspecting drones below. There’s also the occasional boss battle thrown in for good measure. Likewise, the combat feels like a weird greatest hits of rotoscoped platformers, with mines to jump over, gun fights against laser blaster-wielding bots, and a group of cybernetic swordsmen with move sets that feel distinctly Persian if you get what I mean. As such it takes a little getting used to. Namely, if you hit jump a little late Leo doesn’t jump over that lava pit but runs headlong into it. This is on one hand incredibly cool, but it also retains all of its issues. From how Leo draws his gun, leaps over gaps and rolls to avoid incoming enemy fire. Lunark’s controls closely resemble Flashback. The level of care to accurately replicate a very particular time in gaming is admirable down to the slight pixelation of most of the game’s assets. The real star of the show though are the rotoscoped cut scenes, you can tell Canari has thrown everything into them (quite literally if the game’s dev diaries are anything to go by). Meanwhile, the audio is also top-notch, mixing hefty sound effects, with the sort of ethereal synth-heavy soundtrack that wouldn’t feel out of place in a Blade Runner movie. Its colour palette mix of bright neons and murky greys and greens is used to great effect to juxtapose the bright future promised by the Lunark compared to the reality that sees most left behind and living in slums or forced underground. Everything about it screams high-tech and low-life. The presentation is also phenomenal, it looks and feels like a long-lost Amiga game. Anyone with a love for the films of Paul Verhoven or classic cyberpunk is bound to have a great time with it. Everyone else is stuck on terra firma eeking out an existence while ruled over by an oppressive regime of robots, that they’re also forced to build.Īfter being drawn into a terrorist plot Leo goes on an adventure to discover the secrets of the Lunark and the shadowy cabal that controls it. Many companies do not even offer B-grades/ seconds, as they view it as direct violation of their business philosophy: if it’s not prime condition, it is not worthy of bearing their name/ logo. A well-reputed company will only assign “A-Grade” status to those items which meet their aesthetic, quality, brand image, status, and other specific criteria. The retail markup is usually equal to the perceived value of their brand name. Some flaws interfere with functionality of a boot, therefore causing its designation as seconds, but with these situations, pairs are usually discounted deeper, or in the most extreme cases removed from selling consideration altogether. There’s no hard and fast rule that prescribes a criterion that a boot must meet in order to be considered factory second, and examples tend to range from minor, like lack of original packaging to a loose thread or a surface scratch or two, to more profound material inconsistencies such as discoloration, extreme marbling, or loose grain. Some are discarded due to profound flaws, but each instance is determined by manufacturer’s merchandising team, in order to safeguard brand image and reputation.Īdditionally, some items end up in merchants’ seconds designation after they are returned by their retailers or customers, after being displayed on sales floor, and perhaps tried on a few times. Antique stores, thrift stores, and pawn shopsįirst of all, What Are “Factory Seconds”?įactory seconds, which are often referred to as f actory rejects, B-grades, irregulars, or just seconds, are merchandise which - for cosmetic, functional or a combination of these reasons - do not qualify for the prime spot on retailers’ shelves, to be sold at full retail price.Īs such, they are often sold to consumers at discount, either directly by the manufacturer (as the case with Allen Edmonds, Grant Stone, Parkhurst, and a few others), or through retail channel partners.Auction sites (such as eBay and Grailed). What to Remember When Purchasing Factory Seconds.First of all, What Are “Factory Seconds”?.Apparently too busy actually making boots instead of writing nerdy boot stuff. Let’s face it: Stuffing the car trunk or loading up your luggage before takeoff and then doing the opposite when you arrive is often the worst part of any trip, but there’s nothing stopping you from reintroducing the glamour and luxury that defined the so-called Golden Age of Travel. Why not add a dose of class to your travels even if you’re flying coach? With the broad range of sophisticated designer and vintage luggage available for sale on 1stDibs, packing and unpacking doesn’t have to be such a chore. Finding the Right luggage-travel-bags for You Find a variety of vintage Hermès handbags, day dresses, shoes and more on 1stDibs. There’s the Constance bag, a favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy, the recently relaunched 1970s-era Evelyne and, on the vintage market, a slew of designs dating back to the 1920s. Since the 1920s, the brand has produced some of the most desirable leather goods in the world. While the Kelly and Birkin may be standouts, gracing the arms of everyone from royal heiresses to hip-hop stars in the past few decades, the handbags are but a small part of Hermès’s fashion offerings. Owing to the brand’s legendary commitment to deft, handcrafted construction, the Birkin is an investment that is coveted by collectors everywhere. After the two travelers were properly introduced, Birkin helped design Jean-Louis’s most famous contribution to the Hermès canon: the Birkin bag, a roomy, square catchall with the HAC’s trademark leather flap top and the addition of a lock and key. In 1981, Robert Dumas’s son Jean-Louis Dumas, then Hermès chairman, found himself sitting next to French actress and musician Jane Birkin on a plane, where she was complaining about finding a suitable carryall for the necessary accoutrements of motherhood. Kelly even once used one as a sling for her broken arm. Well-heeled women wear it on their heads, around their necks and, in a genius piece of cross-promotion, tied to the straps of their Hermès bags. Today, vintage Hermès scarves, typically adorned in rich colors and elaborate patterns, serve many functions, just as they did back then. Based on a woodblock designed by Dumas and printed on Chinese silk, the accessory was an immediate hit. Robert Dumas was also responsible for another one of the brand’s most iconic offerings: the launch of its first silk scarf on the occasion of Hermès’s 100th anniversary in 1937. Each Kelly bag takes between 18 and 25 hours to produce, and its 680 hand stitches owe solely to one Hermès artisan. In 1977, Hermès officially renamed the model for her, and the Kelly bag was born. Because she was photographed constantly, the coverage catapulted her handbag to international popularity. Later, actress Grace Kelly, then engaged to Prince Rainier of Monaco, is said to have used one of these bags to conceal her pregnancy during the 1950s. In the 1930s, Robert Dumas (son-in-law to Émile-Maurice Hermès, Thierry’s grandson) designed a smaller, trapezoidal take on the flap bag with a handle and two side straps. Today, 120 years later, the HAC remains in Hermès’s line - and its distinctive flap and clasping straps have laid the groundwork for some of the house’s other iconic bags. As the world made the switch from horse to automobile, the bag adapted, becoming a multifunctional travel satchel instead of a designated saddlebag. A tall bag secured with a folded leather flap (fastened with bridle-inspired straps), it was designed to transport riding boots and a harness. The first top-handled bag ever produced by Hermès was the Haut à courroies, which made its debut in 1892. Gradually, the house extended into accessories and luggage for its riders, and today, in paying homage to its origins, the family-run luxury brand resurfaces horse motifs in everything from clothing and modernist jewelry to pillows and handbags. In 1837, German-born French entrepreneur Thierry Hermès opened a saddle and harness purveyor in Paris. For Hermès, what began as a maker of leather equestrian goods for European noblemen would eventually grow into one of the most storied fashion labels in the world. Almost all metal cutting comes down to these basics and machining and troubleshooting are night and day when you understand them. Sorry to sound like a nanny on this, but you really should crack a text book and study the basics - how cutting speed works and how to calculate, how metal cuts and where and what the corresponding rake and clearance angles should be etc. incorrect tool geometry (do some searches, somewhere here I've posted pics and diagrams for fly cutters ), incorrect speed and maybe not enough rigidity in either machine and/or fly cutter set up. When your mill won't go so slow, a you can use carbide which will work at higher speeds. As a guess maybe the dia is 4 or 5 inches? means the mill should be going no more than 50-80 rpm. They are high speed steel cutters made in sizes ranging from 1 to. Cutting speed for hss and cast iron is say 80 feet per minute. Piston Fly Cutters for valve clearances that have changeable rods for different guide sizes. For everything, drilling, milling, lathe etc. I would doubt that mill will go slow enough for a tool steel (which i assume means HSS) cutter. I lap cast iron dry, seems to work better for me.Īlso some close-up pics of your cutter would be helpful. Once you resolve that issue if you still don't have the surface you desire you may try lapping the part on a hard flat surface with some 600 grit wet/dry paper. I bet the cutter is taking a bit more on one edge than it is on the other. All the visible tooling marks go the same direction. Thanks everyoneLooks like your machine may be slightly out of tram. I fed the work into the cutter really slow and took only a very light cut. I have a RF 45 Clone that I ran on the next speed up from slowest. Thats why some aftermarket pistons have special reliefs in them for the valve angle generated by Twisted Wedge Heads. Remove your drill and your cylinder head, then use a measuring tool to verify your cut is as deep as needed. The end result is better but its still pretty average and I could certainly not charge for that kind of job. IF you would ever need to flycut pistons for Twisted Wedge then it will be somewhat challenging as their valve angles are not stock valve angle so valve would hit the piston at different angle than what is cut into stock pistons. I ground it with a bit of an angle on the face. I was using a face mill but I have just started using my fly cutter and some 3/8 tool steel. I am new to machining and I have just started flycutting some cylinder heads for my mini.
